Do You Wish To Know Doomfist’s Abilities? They all Pack A Punch!

Do You Wish To Know Doomfist’s Abilities? They all Pack A Punch!

Finally, the wait is over for the Overwatch fans as Doomfist has arrived. He went live on the Public Test Realm (PTR) and has brought along a new story trailer with him.

Check out this story trailer.

Backstory aside, a video from Overwatch Central shows a concise breakdown of Doomfist’s abilities and they are impressive.

Hand cannon

Shotgun style, infinite range weapon with spread. No damage fall-off. Reloads automatically.
– 6 pellets fired, 11 damage per pellet.
– 4 shot ammo capacity.

Rising Uppercut

A close range punch that knock an enemy up and back.
– Damage: 50.
– Cool down: 7 seconds.

Seismic Slam

Leap forward and smash the ground.
Damage: 40-125.
– Cool down: 7 seconds.

Rocket Punch

Hold to charge then release to launch forward and knock an enemy back. Damage increases if the enemy hits a wall.
– Damage: 49-100 on hit, plus +50-150 if target gets knocked into a wall.
– Cool down: 4 seconds.

Meteor Strike

Leap up into the air. Move the targeting circle, then press primary fire to strike the targeted area.
Damage: 300 at center (drop off on the edges).
– Area of effect: ~7 meters.
– Charge required: 1500 points.

The Best Defense…

Dealing damage with abilities creates temporary personal shields.
– Passive.
– Health: +30 barriers per enemy hit with any of the three abilities, +75 barriers per enemy hit with ultimate ability. Maximum of 150.
– Duration: 1 second delay, -3 barriers per second

The rocket punch looks quite daunting from the opponent’s perspective. But overall, Blizzard has done justice to Doomfist’s abilities.

Although, the anticipation paid-off to some extent, the fans are feeling disappointed for one particular reason. Earlier this year, Terry Crews stated that he’ll do the voice over for Doomfist. But clearly that’s not the case here. It seems there have been some changes in plans and Terry Crews’s involvement in Overwatch has went back to being a mystery.

Phase 2 – It’ll involve a voting process to see which players represent each country

Phase 3 – Marks the beginning of the group stage of the tournament.

Overwatch fans thought, the world cup was a one-time event that took place last year. But, Blizzard suprised them all, by bringing back the world cup this year too. It seems, Blizzard values the world cup torunament more than the league games.

However, what remains to be seen, is the voting process that will happen in the Phase 2.

Things To Know About Overwatch’s New Hero

Things To Know About Overwatch’s New Hero

For the last couple of weeks, Blizzard has been teasing on their game Overwatch’s next character. The teasers were spot on, that fans were able to realize the arrival of a new hero, but weren’t sure who. Initially, it was assumed that Efi Oladele would be the chosen one. Later, the scenes from the game showed evidences pointing towards Doomfist. If this confusion wasn’t enough, the game’s director Jeff Kaplan’s comment sent the fans and viewers back to square one. At the DICE summit, he stated that the next character isn’t the one who the fans were expecting. Nobody knew who he was talking about, triggering even more speculations and fan theories. If you missed all the commotion, catch up here.

Now, Blizzard have decided to put the curiosity to rest by introducing Orisa, as the game’s next hero. Orisa is a tank-robot and her addition increased the roster number to 24. She will function as the frontline attacker and a heavy defender. Though, she is now available in the PTR (Public Test Realm), there is still time for her to arrive to the actual game. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the background of Orisa.

Orisa Origins

orisa

She is a standard OR-15 robot, given the task of protecting the Numbani tribe from danger. Despite being deployed in numbers, the robots didn’t stand a chance against Doomfist who retrieved his gauntlet back, leaving behind heaps of OR-15 metal scraps in his wake. This activity sounds familiar, isn’t it? It forms the backbone of every Hollywood action movie, where the protagonist destroys everything in his path for the sake of either love, revenge, justice or just for fun like Deadpool.

Anyway, returning to the topic at hand, the Numbani had to defend themselves from future attacks after what Doomfist did. This is where, the teased character Efi Oladele comes into play. Being a 11 year old robotics prodigy, she salvaged one of the ruined OR-15 robot and rebuilt it as a stronger one. The rebuilt version was names Orisa.

Orisa’s Abilities

Fusion Driver

The fusion driver is Orisa’s projectile cannon and is her primary weapon. Its functionality is the same as a heavy machine gun with consistent damage and fast fire rate. Though, the damage isn’t that high, the accuracy and range are more in comparison to the cannon owned by D’Va, who is the game’s other tank-character.

Halt

overwatch-orisa-halt-700x389

Halt is Orisa’s secondary weapon and acts as a tool to outmaneuver enemies. It releases graviton charges that pulls enemies to one spot for a few seconds and will detonate on release. The cooldown for this weapon is 8 seconds.

Barrier

overwatch-orisa-shield-700x389

This is the best defensive ability present in Overwatch so far. Orisa’s protective barrier is a combination of Reinhardt’s Barrier Field, Winston‘s Barrier Projector, and Symmetra’s Photon Barrier. It can be shot out of a cannon like a projectile and can be deployed anywhere. The only drawback is, the shield’s strength is low, standing at only 900 in comparison to Reinhardt’s barrier, which is at 2000. However, Orisa’s shield has a cooldown of 12 seconds and a duration of 20 seconds. If these duration statistics are put to good use, she will be a good defensive tank hero.

Fortify

overwatch-orisa-fortify-700x389

Fortify reduces the damage taken by 50% and it also renders Orisa immune to any action impairing effects. She will be immune to einhardt’s Earthshatter ultimate, Mei’s freezing abilities, Ana’s sleep darts and Bionic Grenades, and Sombra‘s hacking ability, while the fortify ability is active. The drawbacks of this ability are, it lasts only for four seconds and has a cooldown of 12 long seconds.

Supercharger

overwatch-orisa-supercharger-700x389

Supercharger is Orisa’s ultimate ability. It allows her to buff the damage dealt by allies via a little cylinder device. The allies will have to remain within a 25 meter radius line of sight of the device, in order to receive the damage buff. The damage buff stands at a massive 50% from the normal. Though, being an ultimate ability, the cooldown is 15 seconds.

Being a heavy tank, Orisa lacks movement speed and maneuvering makes her vulerable to flankers such as Tracer and Genji. She also has a low health of just 400, which will require healers to keep her alive for a long time.

So far, she has been only played in the PTR. She might receive tweaks before she finally arrives to the actual game, which is yet to be known.

Blizzard Teases An Overwatch Character, Yet Again

Blizzard Teases An Overwatch Character, Yet Again

A few days back, I was talking about how often, Blizzard kept teasing the arrival of a new character to Overwatch. It has happened yet again.

Last time, the focus was on a young girl scientist, Efi Oladele, who was thought to be the next character in Overwatch. You can read the full story here. This time, Blizzard teased by updating the public test version of the game. The tease was spotted after the Numbani map underwent some changes.

The map had two significant changes. The first change is in the spawn room for the attacking team. There, you can see the aftermath of the attack. Take a look at the first 3 pictures below.

In another part of the map, you will find changes in the payload cart. The glass containing Doomfist’s gauntlet has been smashed open and nothing is left inside of it. Check the last three images above.

Hence, as you would have guess by now, the speculation goes that Doomfist might be the next Overwatch character. During the summit, Jeff Kaplan went on to say, “It is not who you think it is”.

Assumptions remain as plain theories and only time can transform them to facts.

Blizzard Teases On New Character And It Is Not Who You Think

Blizzard Teases On New Character And It Is Not Who You Think

Overwatch was in the news many times, over speculation about the arrival of a new character. Though the inclusion of a new hero is confirmed, it is not yet known, who that person is going to be.

The first theory was formed, after Blizzard teased about a young girl in a blog post, who may or may not be playable.

overwatch_efi

The girl was called, Efi Oladele and she is a scientist. Fans assumed, that the next Overwatch character is going to be Efi.

This assumption was backed up, during a summit talk, held by DICE. At the summit, Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan shared an early piece of concept art. Take a look at the image below.

overwatchconcept

The characters in this art can be recognized as Tracer, Winston, Mercy, and Genji. But, it also shows a giant spider shooting a laser beam. With Efi, being a young scientist, it is possible that she might be the one controlling the giant robot spider. This made the fans confident, that Efi would be the next Overwatch hero.

But, Kaplan was smart enough to know, that the eagle-eyed fans would assume her as an upcoming character. He quoted,

I need to say this for our subreddit so it doesn’t implode: No, the hero in the center is not the hero who you think it is.

This statement left the fans in a cloud of confusion. If it isn’t Efi, then who?

One thing is for sure, that Blizzard is working on a number of new heroes for the game. We just have to wait and see.

Overwatch Nendoroid has been announced

Overwatch Nendoroid has been announced

The Good Smile Company announced that it will launch another Nendoroid this August.

Nendoroid? What in the world is that?

Don’t worry! I heard your question.

They are miniature, hand-painted display statues of known, famous characters. They are completely articulated and can be posed in different manners. This time, the Nendoroid the company was talking about would be Tracer from the shooter game, Overwatch. Take a look at the gallery below for you to get an idea of it.

The Tracer Nendoroid comes with a transparant adjustable apparatus to help you change Tracer’s pose without any problems with balancing the statue. The accessories include blue lightning-styled streak from the generator she wears on her back and chest, interchangeable legs, a Pulse Bomb and a replaceable hand.

It will be priced at $39 excluding tax and shipping, and will be available from August.

These will be the new additions to Overwatch

These will be the new additions to Overwatch

Blizzard, the creators of Overwatch, have always been known for their continuous post-launch support. They stood by their reputation, when a player expressed some issues with the console.

Recently, in the blizzard forum, a player pointed out a few console related issues. These included lack of reporting system, Symmetra and Torbjorn’s lack of turret damage. Much to the expectations, the director of the game Jeff Kaplan said that, their team is aware of these issues and are going to take necessary actions to rectify them.

symmetra-overwatch-700x389

A number of characters in the game, were given nerfs and tweaks to rebalance their attributes and potentials. But the damage output of Symmetra and Torbjorn’s turrets were falling behind, in comparison to the other characters.

With Blizzard keeping track of this problem and with a player expressing concern for it, we can expect changes and balancing to happen to these issues in the near future.
